Hiking at Panorama Mountain Resort for Families

Hiking at Panorama Mountain Resort for Families!

April 20, 20262 min read

Panorama Mountain remains a premier destination for family-friendly hiking, offering spectacular views of British Columbia’s Purcell Mountains. We know that hiking with kids works best when there’s an interactive reward at the end—whether it's a hidden playground, a rushing creek, or a mountaintop snack. Luckily, Panorama's trail system is designed with this in mind!

With Mile 1 Express chairlift access, you can bypass the initial climb and start your adventure with breathtaking views of the Columbia Valley. Here are a few of our updated family-favorite trails for the 2026 season:

Fort Hide N’ Seek

A true family classic, this hike is perfect for younger children who need a little extra motivation.

  • The Route: Take the Mile 1 Express up and follow the easy 1.5km trail to find the hidden play castle tucked away in the forest.

  • The Reward: Kids will love the slides and playhouse, while parents can soak in the views of the village and Greywolf Golf Course.

  • Duration: Approximately 45 minutes of hiking, plus plenty of time for play!

Cox Creek Trail

If your family enjoys the sounds of nature, this 3.5km moderate trail is a must.

  • The Route: Start from the top of the Mile 1 Express and head east into the forest. The trail twists through the trees before reaching the refreshing waters of Cox Creek.

  • The Journey: After crossing the creek, the path winds through the Founder’s Ridge area with gentle switchbacks leading you all the way back down to the village.

  • Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours.

Panorama Valley Trail

Perfect for all ages and fitness levels, this 5km paved loop is wide enough for strollers and easily accessible from multiple points in the village.

  • The Highlights: The trail rises above the Greywolf Golf Course, passes the rushing Toby Creek, and winds through the lower village near the tennis courts and mini-golf.

  • Pro Tip: This is a great evening stroll after dinner at the Cliffhanger Restaurant!

New for 2026: The WILDness Trail Run

Visiting in late June? Panorama is hosting the WILDness Trail Race (June 27-28, 2026). While the main races are for endurance athletes, keep an eye out for the New 5km Fun Run—a great way for active families to test their legs on a mix of pavement and trail!

2026 Season & Availability

  • Summer Operations: The Mile 1 Express for sightseeing and hiking is scheduled to operate from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, August 30, 2026.

  • Fall Hiking: Hiking in September and October offers some of the best colors in the valley. We still have availability at Lone Wolf Chalet for those crisp, golden autumn weekends.
